soaps on telly and people talking about the characters as if they were real.
It's not likely that a difference in fat content caused the change. different starches have different compositions and may affect BG at a different rate. Something to do with amylose and Amylopectin , but I can't remember exactly.
Then again, it could be you changing.
I coldn't get away with 1 slice of bread let alone 2. Is this with or without medicine?

Hi tubs,

Certainly proves the age old adage - we are all different!
One possibility I guess is that your bs on day 2 was already more elevated, so the effect of any dietary carbohydrate would be more pronounced. I'd need a correction dose over and above the insulin I'd normally use if I started out at 6.6mmol/l first thing in the morning. As a T2, you don't have that 'luxury' so the outcome might be your higher than expected bs.
As you know, there are so many other variables involved sometimes, any of them might be involved.
Quite a lot of carbs there though, have you tested at 1 hour to see what your 'spike' is?

All the best,

fergus

Hi tubs,
If you read Rick Gallop's "Living the GI Diet" you will see that he recommends only one slice of bread per meal. I think if you tried the same menu with one slice it would work. I lost 3 stone following his advice and my BG's were good.

It's interesting to read this thread because I've been trying the same Burgen bread this week. I only have bread at lunch-time but ever since I've been using it I've had an upset stomach.I haven't been sick, just need to run to the loo and can't think of anything else 'different' in my diet to normal.Blood sugars are fine, so don't think I'm sickening for anything. Think I'll go back to Morry's Sunflower and Linseed bread, even though it has more carbs.Has anyone else found Burgen didn't agree with them?

Hi Chocoholic,
Rather than Burgen bread which (I think) is around 11g per slice, I have found that Nimble or Weightwatchers bread at 9g per slice is better for my BS levels.

Yes, thanks, Dennis. I like the Morry's seeded one though as it tastes really nice. I haven't eaten Nimble for donkey's years 'cause it seemed too airy and tasteless but I'm always open to suggestions, so may give that a go again sometime.

I love Burgens Linseed and Soya as a former white bread fanatic and having tried any number of browns until I found this. Wasnt so keen on the Burgens Wholemeal and Cranberry though. No side effects that I am aware of.
