where do Quorn products figure on the GI index?

Quorn is essentially a protein and low in carbs anyway. It is impractical to test very low carb foods (the testers would have to eat too much) and there is no GI on the Sydney list for Quorn. (that includes all the foods tested by reputable labs)
I think that as it is a high fibre product it may help lower the GI of other foods eaten with it.

As a veggie I use quorn a lot, my body seems to like it. I will even use the quorn slices instead of bread, I will pinch a couple of my families chips and make myself a quorn 'chip buttie'. Not quite the same as a slice of fresh bread I know, but it fills a need. I roll cheese in a piece of quorn with a litlle chutney or mayo and have a cheese 'sandwich.'

I have Quorn bacon and eggs most days for breakfast and my AM BG is better than it has been in along time. I previoulsy suffered from the dawn phenomemnon, but not any more. Bg used rise to 12 and stay there until 1.00 in the afternoon, now it is back below 8 by 10.00 am

I do big vegetable and quorns stir-fries with all sorts of flavourings and they are very filling with no starchy carbs. I make fajita's but without the wrap part and they are very tasty.

I haven't figured out though how to make a quorn chocolate cake

I don't know how many carbs I eat daily as I don't measure my vegetables, but I eat as much as I wan, when I want, and I am loosing weight, and my bg control has improved.

Thanks to you all for your replies, i'm glad to see that some people are as confused as i am about the Low GI diet, although i have kept my levels down with diet for 4 yrs.i'm now on 2x500 Metformin ......can't be good all the time.

Hi amron,

This may help you understand the G.I. principle.

http://lpi.oregonstate.edu/infocenter/f ... /gigl.html

What you have to remember is that just because a food is classed as low GI does not mean that you can eat as much as you like. Diabetics have to assess how much of that particular food is acceptable for them and may even find that it sends their own blood sugars into orbit whereas someone else has no problem with it.
Portion control and testing are essential.

Hope this helps.

Catherine.
