Hi

Does the low carb mean you can eat as much protein as a person wants?

Unless you're planning on ketosis for longevity or other reasons, protein doesn't need to be restricted - Dr Bernstein recommends a low carb high protein diet and a lot of researchers do as well because protein seems to be uniquely satiating AND self-limiting. Most people can only eat a certain amount of protein without starting to feel ill. It's recommended by a lot of weight loss researchers as well.

I eat a lot of protein, and always have, all my life. I was just told that as long as you don't have any kidney problems there is no harm. I think you just need to watch your BS numbers as excess protein over and above what your body uses can convert to glucose and may show in your BS several hours later, even the next day.

I find that eating high protein means that my blood glucose levels are nicely under control.

BUT

I also find that too much protein prevents me from getting into ketosis.

so I now eat normal protein and bump up the fat instead
- Just as satiating, and my blood glucose levels are lower, plus I am in ketosis.
