low carbs how long

I have been on the low carb eating plan for about 3-4 weeks now and, as predicted by some, my blood sugars are down and so is my weight (lost over a stone in that time) and I find myself eating less in some cases missing a meal and still not feeling hungry.
A couple of questions that I hope someone can answer,
1 currently eating approx. 50gr carbs or less how long can I stay at that level?

2 I eat lots of salad, green veg and some fruit, is there an upper level of fruit that I shouldn't go to, I know bananas are not the best fruit.

and last, when and if I increase the carb level and put on weight again is it ok to go back to the lower levels of carbs

You can stay on 50gm carbs as long as you are eating healthy mix of foods,as you say sometimes you do not feel hungry at all but always remember to eat something to keep your BS level.

When you eat a new fruit test to see the effect it has on your BS levels.Test to see what effect eating fruit has on your levels as well.

If you increase the amount of carbs then your blood sugar levels will go up again.Controlling the BS is more important than the weight, although reducing weight will also reduce insulin resistance and help control your BS.

Thanks for that sugarless sue that helps, but I have another question how long after eating something new should I test?

Chrisbel I was on 50g or less carbs for a couple of years and there was no ill effect, I lost weight and my bg was just brilliant.

I gradually increased my daily carb allowance, testing frequently, I now have around 120, 150 max, and am still having bgs at non diabetic levels. I had an awful lot of weight to lose,I also have increased my activity levels, so I think my pancreas is happier that it only has to work for one person now instead of two.

You can always experiment with increasing carbs slightly, as sugarless sue said bg is most important, but dont try to increase carbs just yet, wait till you have lost excess weight and till you are stable on that for a bit, then you could try to increase? It is up to you of course.

All the best

I reduced my carbs( without counting the exact amount ) about 2 years ago. I lost 2 1/2 stone and have non-diabetic BGs. Went from Hba1cs in the low 6s to the 5s. Weight loss has now been stalled for ages, but I keep to the way of eating. It's become ingrained. I expect to keep it up indefinitely. I think I need to reduce total calories too now to get weight going again. I could do with losing at least as much weight again. 9 it would take 4 stone to get me to where I was at 20. But I don't want to be a"scrawny Grandma", so half that will do.
I'm not hungry, EVER, but I do still get "the munchies" which I satisfy with nuts.
I'm doing about 5 - 6 hours of Formal ( classes ) exercise per week and loads of walking in between.
I've had nothing worse than a sniffle since I started this. the fat I eat has improved my skin ( at least I think it's the fat.) I have few wrinkles! and I'm 62.
I am fairly fit.
For example, I walked in a group yesterday about 4 miles cross countrry. including a STEEP hill. I puffed up that hill,( steep enough to make me feel as if I would fall backwards down it) but as soon as I got to the top, I got my breath back.
Bernstein has been doing this for at least 20 years as have numbers of his patients. there doesn't seem to be a downside, despite what the doctors threaten.

Thanks for all the advice that is really great, I exercise regularly sometimes every day and I do need to lose at least another 21/2 - 3 stone, I seem to have stopped at the weight loss at the moment , don't know if this is just a blip but certainly haven't had more than 50gr of carbs in any given day.
Like you say hanadr I am not hungry but do get the munchies sometimes especially in my job where boredom often sets in, I love nuts but not sure yet which ones are ok and how many in a sitting :?:
