Low cholesterol = Moodiness?

Can't get your link to load @ickihun but be careful with what you read, there's many of us on the forum who have low cholesterol levels and have a good temperament :)

I'm moody but trying to dissect why!
Last night I had a huge wave of grief and very dark thoughts. Seeing gp on tuesday for some support. I cannot keep my mood off the floor.
Last time I had a bout of depression I made some irrational decisions. At least I'm more aware this time. I have a better gp too. :)

Interesting that the first reply said she ate more eggs and increased her HDL. Not what the University of Surrey found in their research and even Ancel Keys said that ingesting cholesterol didn't increase our cholesterol levels.

I don't doubt that cholesterol is needed by the body, that's why the body makes the stuff. Just how much is good? I've stopped caring, also stopped statins, what will be will be. I don't need the side effects of statins.

It's all very old work, and admittedly I have only scan read, but it doesn't seem to define low cholesterol.

I have previously come across evidence that low cholesterol is harmful (and I am sorry to say that I didn't keep the links, or as @AndBreathe pointed out, the level of cholesterol that is considered harmful).

Personally, I wouldn't want a total cholesterol level under 5, and will never take a drug that claims to lower cholesterol. As a woman approaching 50 fast, I am also approaching the age where higher cholesterol levels will be protective to me.

Having said that, without a clear definition and discussion of what actually constitutes 'low' cholesterol, the article becomes meaningless.

Currently cannot click to expand anyone's long reply. Sorry @Contralto . I'll let @Giverny know.
Thank you for looking into this deeper for me. Your replies are very informative.

Took statins about 7-8yrs ago for a few months and had indigestion as a side affect. Came off it as wasn't safe to take through planning 2nd pregnancy and never went back on it since. Not a pleasant experience.
My cholesterol is good and I hope to keep it that way. Total 3.9 then post lchf 4.4. Still good enough for me.
Maybe 3.9 is preferable by NICE but I'm satisfied with 4s.

I'm usually borderline myself but cannot take statins at all because of side effects muscle knotting, ligament pain, higher sugars.
My cholesterol is sitting at 5.5 at the moment with an LDL of 3.1 but I'm not going to go back onto statins as last time i took them my hba1c went up from 48 to 54 and I had frequent dizzy spells.

GP feels thyroxine should be increased again then a bloodtest to show if overactive or not, in 6wks time.
Pains in pelvis and sciatic leg down to family history and age ( i guess years ive been overweight, as that's what their medical books say).
GPs are becoming just chemists and most likely less trained than a paramedic. I go to see mine for solutions as well as medication.
I think I'm written off because I'm overweight. Society is very anti-overweight nowadays. Pressure pressure pressure. Just makes matters worse!

You always find good and bad links to everything that's why I never read them I wouldn't know which to believe

my mood is better than for years ... and my cholesterol is the lowest ever. and I actually usually have had a chain of depressions for most of my life.... so don´t think low cholesterol is always causing low moods or moodiness..

I think the level of cholesterol is matching the level of need for cell-repair in our bodies.... when having much inflamation or other kinds of cell-damage in our body then the levels will be high... ( my private theory)

That is very interesting @Contralto . I guess I'm putting myself at risk of higher cholesterol by having underactive thyroid untreated.
I guess this is also saying high thyroxine = low cholesterol. So too high may mean too low cholesterol???
I know when I didn't have high blood pressure I had higher bgs too. Maybe same mechanisms involved in the body.
Some can tolerate salt with no affect to blood pressure. I still haven't reduced my blood pressure on its own. Drugs only. I'd love to find a solution naturally for that too.

My original thread was about violence in alcohol caused by low cholestrol link but mods altered it.
Too low a cholesterol that is.
I thought it highlighted anger, frustration and anger outbursts in alcohol to too low cholesterol. So if that linked what else could be happening???

I like your private theory.
What is cholesterol made by the body for? I know we do need some cholesterol to protect the heart and other organs.
Does the organs die without cholesterol?

and yes underactive thyroid leads to high cholesterol... i know that from myself as having to eat levothyroxine for the rest of my life

there must be a reason to why there is so much cholesterol in the heart and other vital organs... I think it is because they are the most important to have repaired all the time
