Low dose with pen

I'm new to insulin, having been diagnosed with LADA two years ago. Now I'm taking two units of aspart before meals with a NovoRapid FlexPen. The trouble is, sometimes it does a great job (peaks less than 7.2), and other times it does nothing; as if I haven't injected at all (peaks at 11 or more). I wonder whether the dose delivered at 2 units isn't so accurate. When I prime the pen (expelling 2 units into the air, as recommended), it doesn't look like the same quantity each time - although it's not really possible to tell. Or maybe I'm injecting wrong - it's an 8mm needle and I'm pretty thin; if I inject too deep might that give no effect?
Happy for any advice and recommendations.

I assume you don't always eat the same thing, so if you are taking exactly the same amount of insulin your blood sugar levels will vary depending on what you've eaten. I don't think using a too long needle would have an effect, you'd notice if you were injecting into muscle I think it would hurt.

I would suggest trying 6mm needles, which are available for the pen you are using...

I use 6mm needles and if I inject them too deeply I notice that the same thing can happen. (I have really low body fat and have to inject at a 45 degree angle so it hits the right depth.

Seriously suggest giving it a bash..
