Hi guys :)
I've been looking into the low glycemic index diet and just wondered how many of you follow this diet? Any tips and advice is welcome as I'm finding some of it quite confusing.
Example - a tin of baked beans has approx 53g of carbs but I only need to inject for half of this amount as beans are low GI. Does this apply for all low GI foods? How would I work it out??

I incorporate low/medium-gi foods in my diet (I'm type 1 also) so will try my best to explain.

Like high-fat meals it may be necessary to split-dose your insulin for foods such as pulses, meaning you would inject half just before (or just after eating) and again 2 hours after to allow for the slow digestion of the carbs. Some people can get away with eating a low-gi meal and inject the full dose 30 -60 mins after but much depends on the individual, only by testing your postprandial bg readings will you know the answer for yourself ,so do test away and see what results you get.

Thanks very much noblehead that makes sense. So it's all about trial and error I suppose.
I know it's different for each person but if you consume medium GI foods, would you normally inject straight away?

Well I inject either immediately before or 10 - 20 mins beforehand, all depends on my pre-prandial bg reading.
