Hello, I've had type 2 since Feb 2016. Within 3 months of getting type 2 diabetes I hit the gym for the first time in my life and started to lose weight. I exercise 4/5 times per week doing minimum of 40mins of cardio. I now can't imagine life without exercise. I look forward to it and do feel the benefits.

My Hba1c is below 40 and I've lost weight.

My Doctor says that if I keep this up I shouldn't ever have any long term problems caused by diabetes. Is he correct?

My attitude now is like this, because I exercise and lose weight and have a very good Hba1c, I don't do daily blood readings and I do still eat sweet sugary foods. I never touch soda drinks but still have the occasional pint or two.

I feel like I'm living the life of someone who doesn't have diabetes.

Am I kidding myself or should I be much more careful?

Thanks

Well done on the weight loss and and reduced HBA1C.

I had the similar conversation with my nurse when my HBA1C was 35, that didn't go well for me 18 months later when it was 42. Please keep an eye on things as diabetes can be sneaky.

Well done on the weight loss and the HbA1c, but a big mistake to stop testing. You are quite likely to slip back to where you started unless you keep a regular eye on your blood sugar levels, especially after eating those sweet sugary foods and large amounts of carbohydrate. Testing yourself will show you if you can live the life of a non-diabetic or not. I hope you can, but reversal can be temporary if you don't watch out. :)

Agree with Bluetit1802 stopping testing can be the start of a slippery path. And I speak from personal experience. It is very easy to get complacent with diabetes

Test only once a day if you don't want to do more and vary the type of test you do (fasting, premeal, post meal) each day. In an ideal world you should test before and two hours after each meal.
