I recently volunteered to give platelets at my local blood donor session, having given whole blood for many years. They took half an armful for tests and all came back OK except that my platelet count is a little low - not clinically low, in that I have plenty for my own needs, but just below the margin needed to actually donate platelets. I know that BG/A1c measurements can be affected by, among other things, anaemia, but does anyone know if a lower platelet count causes, for example, an incorrectly low (or high) reading? They did say there was nothing to worry about and that a mildly lowered (often temporary) platelet count is not unusual after substantial weight loss - over 100lbs in my case. Mark.
