I have just tested myself 2 hours after eating my evening meal. This evening that was a fluffy cheese omelette, with salad.

My dilemma is, I was 3.9 before and 3.8 after. I feel absolutely fine, and assume if I drop further my liver will do its thing. So, should I top up with something before bed? (It's only just before 8pm here. ). I'm not at all hungry or even peckish, but under 4 after eating is unusual for me, at least.

What does the collective think?

When this happens to me I usually just have a single jellybean. Having said that; my basal is rock solid.

Well, I did nothing, and woke at 4.2. I should have said in my original post that I'm T2.

I've been in the 3s before, just not after my last food of the day.

Perfectly normal and shows you are doing the right thing. I can occasionally go down to just below 4 but mostly when I combine low-carb with wine nowadays.

For those on insulin it may be a bit more complicated but when not readings around 4 is a cause for happiness.

My lowest, thus far, is 3.4, and I felt rough, which I put down to being very, very hungry. I had unexpected had to miss a meal, and had neither compensated at breakfast nor did I have anything, like a cereal bar, with me.

Since then, I have replicated the horrid, weak, shaky feeling twice now by having 2 cups of strong coffee within a couple of hours, and modified my conclusion to not feeling rough due to low sugars, but to excess caffeine in my system, on an empty-ish stomach. So, I think my liver is probably pretty good at looking after me, but I'll go easy on coffee.

I had a reading of 3.7 once and felt horrible but as I was hung over I believe both the low bg and feeling a bit off colour were brought on by too much wine the night before.

On no meds, those readings are ideal. Should you drop lower, your liver will kick in. Well done

Thanks all.

I'm feeling very well and fit at present, and couldn't believe anything was amiss last night. Sometimes I just need a little reassurance.
