Whoever told you this isn't being overly helpful. Your body has hundreds of different proteins, all of which do different things. Insulin is one of these. Can you ask your GP to be more specific about
a) which protein exactly is it that's low?
b) how low is "low" and what should it be?
c) what does he/she recommend to sort the problem out?
Did the doctor do any tests (like a blood test)? If so then did he tell you anything else?
If the problem really is a low insulin level then perhaps you could ask why he didn't just say that. The word protein (when referring to insulin) is not a term that would be used even by one doctor to another, let alone a doctor to a patient, because it is so vague! It is the equivalent of you taking your car to the garage and telling them there is a problem but without giving them a clue what the problem is!
