Type of diabetes
Type 1
Treatment type
Insulin
I've just got back into work after about 9 years of not being able to get a job due to once the employer finds out I have diabetes and I have my 1st low blood sugar or near seizure accident they get rid of me asap by making an excuse up, and sadly this seems to happen on the 1st or 2nd day every time.

But my big Q is how can I stop this from happening ? Even though my level's are good, I'm doing the right dosages for my insulin level's & that I eat a lot of food to try and keep my carbs up.

I'm lucky at the moment as I'm at a charity shop and even though I have had these low sugar's they still promise not to "fire" me from it.

With all due respect, you're not doing the right dosages or you wouldn't keep losing jobs & having seizures. Diabetes is a condition that raises BG levels, it doesn't cause hypo's. You must be taking too much insulin for your carb intake or you are not accounting for levels of activity. Are you basal/bolus ? Do you inject fixed amounts or carb count ?
In order to avoid losing any more jobs, you ought to keep detailed records of everything you inject, the amount of carbs you eat, exercise taken and test BG regularly, upon waking, prior to eating, 2hrs after, during exercise and before bed. It's not normal or acceptable to let diabetes screw your career up like this. Spend the time now to avoid future complications and disappointment.
I hope you work things out.

@Wick55uk, if your more active in your work than you are at home then you'll need to tweak your insulin doses to prevent the hypo's occurring, probably best that you get your DSN/DN's input if your unsure about adjusting your own insulin doses.

@Wick55uk

When you are not at work are your BS levels within safe limits i.e. neither going hypo nor hyper? If the levels are good you may find that it is necessary to inject less fast acting insulin if you are more active on work days.

I see @noblehead has posted the same suggestion. I've tagged @Jaylee who is a very informative member.

I'm really afraid of going against the fixed dose that my diabetic doc has told me to do due to doing it in the past and being sent to intensive care a few times when I have done it in the past, so for the 5 past years I've never changed my dose unless my doc has said too and not changed it recently due to the USA immigration investigating me for moving over there next year

over the past 5 years it's been rare for me to have a hypo as my BS lvls have been around the lvls of 15.0 - HI+ and thats mostly due to me not eating the right things, sleeping long times and depression

Thanks @Ambersilva
Lol I don't know about "informative"!?? I'll try!

Hi, these BS levels you ride at can have an effect on your mood. I'm not undermining your feeling of depression. The BS levels just won't help? The circle has to be broken with tighter BS control..

Congratulations on your new job. Does the position by nature have regular set breaks at allotted times.? Is the work load & tasks in your role/position also on average similar in nature, regarding routine?

My job sets me with sorting out donated items, stocking up the selves and steaming the new clothes so there clean

It all depends on what the manager wants me to do on that day as due to it being a volunteer job there is no "place"

And thank you for the + on getting my new job

Hi,
you say that you use fixed doses, I don't think you have said what type of insulin regime that you use. It makes a very big difference as to what you can do.
Which insulins do you use?

I use 12 - 22 units of Nova rapid 3x's a day and 16 units of Lantus before I go to bed
