Hi GrantHello,
I do a good bit of baking but have yet to find a way to get lower carb without using the pricey almond flour...
,Not sure where you live, but this bread is available in the UK. Not only is it good, but it comes in at 6g carbs per slice (11g carbs - 5g fibre):

I know you wanted to make your own but I'm afraid I'm not able to help with that!
Good luck,
Grant
Hi Grant
Sorry but thats 11g of carbs plus 5g of fibre so its 11g per slice at least thats how I read the label. Please let me know if I'm wrong..

Mark

In Canada it's the same as the UK by the sounds of it. My dietician says to deduct the fibre from the carbs.
But back to the bread (sorry this thread took a turn). I'm not against using almond flour along with soy and other LC flours. Problem I've heard is that most can't give that same bready texture. I got this bread http://www.thelowcarbgrocery.com/catalog/bakers-deluxe-dream-bread-g-396.html?prod_id=5721 and it's good. Has a bit of a sour taste (something like sour dough) and the texture is okay but a bit chewy. Any way I thought since I can take a few carbs I might try making some that is below that 10 grams per slice.
I wish i was in a metro area. I live in a small town int the middle of the prairies. Im abot 2.5 hours east of Edmonton. When i do get to the city i try and check out a few places but i only get there about once every couple of months. For now amazon is my friend. My local co-op still wants 16 bucks for bobs almond flour. No Frills has 200g for 2.99. Walmart wants 7.99 for 100g. I didnt get to make that loaf, from another thread i posted today, like i planned tonight but will see about tomorrow.

Thanks @tpaz. I did get a bunch of items from them. I got the bread and the bagels. The bread isn't bad. Had a bit of a sour dough taste which I like. Only problem is how chewy it is. I haven't tried the bagels yet. Also picked up a box of Carbquik. Haven't tried it either but I'm thinking of using it to replace some of the whole wheat flour in a recipe I found for LC bread. Also for pancakes (tomorrow morning if I don't sleep in). I'll let you know if I have any questions.
BTW they shipped everything in one box and amazingly the breads didn't get squished. They did a good job of packing everything. Only other problem is since I'm in the middle of no where it took three days to get here and the freezer pack was melted when it got here. Not even sure why they botheredI stuffed the bread in the freezer as soon as I got the package.
So i didnt have the cakes like i planned. I will see what i can do this week and let you know. Btw i found a bread on the organic freezer isle. It is ony 10g carbs per slice. It seems i can have 2 slices and only go up 1mmol. 20g per meal seems to be my limit. This is a Canadian made bread called Bobs Big Red Bread. Has 21 grians and seeds.
