Morning everyone,

Wondered if I could tap into your cumulative wisdom ?

Hubby went to the GP the other week about his ongoing pain, the reason he first went to the doctor 6 months ago. The GP was full of praise for how well he is doing managing his diabetes and said that it was unusual for someone to have the willpower to bring about a reduction by diet alone. (I thought that he should take a look at this forum !!)

Anyway when he was first diagnosed T2 the GP said that the pain would reduce as his BG came down. Having reduced his numbers by 80% the pain has in fact gotten worse. GP is now saying that it is because he has dropped his BG so quickly that he feels more pain (this has been a steady reduction over 6 months so not that rapid in my opinion)

GP doesn't think that it is related to shingles as the pain moves around his body. I am not convinced that it is related to diabetes at all because it began after the 'virus'-whatever that was and it responds to anti-inflammatories such as Ibruprofen. Nerve pain apparently doesn't respond well to anti-inflammatories. The pain started on his side and shoulders and has gradually spread down to the lower back/kidneys/butt/flanks. Has been itchy/tingling/sunburn/stabbing/aching type of pain. Apparently this is 'focal neuropathy' and presents itself in diabetics who have been undiagnosed/untreated for 25 plus years-am fairly certain he wasn't diabetic 25 years ago ! (NHS website)

GP has prescribed Amitriptyline which is helping him sleep at night and I suggested that he get his Vitamin D levels checked as that might be part of the problem.

My question is (sorry for being so long winded !) has anyone else ever been told that their ongoing mystery pain is because they dropped their BG too quickly ?

I am bemused and would welcome any suggestions. :)

I would also request that you ask the GP to test his B12 levels
