Have been diagnosed 6 weeks now Type 1 although initially docs treated it as type two, levels were very high on diagnosis running in the 20's up to 31 at one point, docs feel they had been high for some time prior to diagnosis, now on insulin and levels are coming down and beginning to level out to some extent but was wondering if anyone had experienced feeling shaky, wobbly, with hypo type symptoms when levels are low 5's if they go as low as 4's feel really shaky and ill.
Do people think this maybe because levels have been so high for so long that it is such a shock to my system to be what should be normal?.
Have only experienced one full on hypo so far when levels were 2.1 which was pretty scary. Last night woke up at 2am feeling very weak and shaky levels were 4.4 had drink of lucozade and felt better after a bit and levels went up. Any thoughts much appreciated

You're exactly right. It seems our bodies have a defense mechanism to sense when our blood sugar drops below normal. Unfortunately, if your levels have been running high for a period of time your body can get confused about what is "Normal."

That will usually go away within a few weeks and it happened to many of us shortly after our diagnosis
