I've looked through the threads but no one seemed to answer this question: can type 2 diabetes lead to Lupus?

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes around 5 years ago; since then, I have lost more than 10% body weight (around 75.5 kgs), BMI around 25; very rarely exceed blood sugar readings of 7.5, Hba1C about 41/2, now 72 years. Now my consultants are investigating possible Lupus. Can this be as a result of diabetes?

As far as I know, the only connection with (T1) diabetes would be that they both derive from a faulty immune system.

In my opinion, the answer to your question is no, Diabetes does not cause Lupus but I'm happy to be corrected.

Diabetes of whatever kind does not cause lupus but autoimmune diseases tend to cluster. If you have one you are far more likely to get another. For some reason type 2 diabetes seems to cluster with autoimmune although it is not the cause. I had several autoimmune diseases many years before diabetes. You would probably be amazed how many diabetics have Psoriasis or arthritis. Makes you wonder if there is an immune component to type 2 as well.
