Macular Edema / Insulin Pump

Does anyone know if you are eligible for an insulin pump if you are undergoing treatment macular edema (eye disease).

Got the go ahead this morning for my insulin pump (which I've been waiting 2.5 years for) then Doctor says he wasn't sure if I could get the pump afterall as I was receiving treatment for macular edema??

Any information would be welcome.

I started using an insulin pump whilst in the middle of laser treatment for proliferative retinopathy. That was over 12 years ago, I don't know what the current advice would be. I had already lost the sight in my left eye at this point so I presume the consultant thought starting to use a pump couldn't make the situation much worse. I do know that retinopathy can become much more aggressive if blood glucose control improves rapidly so this could perhaps also apply with macular edema? Did your Doctor not give his reasons for any delay? Good luck, I hope you are able to start with your longed for pump as soon as possible.
