My mum can be a bit like this - she's funny about all illnesses though.

My usual retort to "someone might not like needles" is to say it won't kill them if I inject but it will kill me if I don't. That usually shuts people up. I'm discrete but have zero tolerance for people moaning about it!

I'm a newly diagnosed t1 and I tend to go somewhere private when injecting , just a personal thing , in saying that if I had to do it in front of anyone I wouldn't hesitate , do whatever your comfortable with
