I have type 2 diabetes and because I have trouble in swallowing I am on Glucophage. This is Metformin in powder form and you mix it into water. The trouble is that it tastes lousy and it's making me not take my medicine. Can anyone suggest something I can put in the mix that will kill the lousy taste? Something with zero or very little sugar. Perhaps some concentrated essence. Thanks.

Hi. I had to change from the tablets at the start of this week because I was having trouble swallowing them. The powder is horrible. My local pharmacy phoned up the manufacturer to ask if I could put some no added sugar diluting orange juice in it to make it more palatable. They said they had tested out the powder in milk, coca cola and orange juice with no adverse reaction to the product so that would be fine. Apparently it stayed stable for 2 hours after making it up. I am now adding some Robinsons no added sugar orange & pineapple juice to mine. Much easier to drink.

Sugar free vimto or Robinsons sugar free apple/blackcurrant
or the sugar free summer fruits cordials .
All are suitable to add in and pleasant on taste too :)
