Making sense of blood results!

I have just collected my fasting results and cannot make any sense of them.
Can anyone help me decode these things and break it down to simple terms for me?
I know it's a big ask but I am just seeing facts and figures with no understanding of what they mean!
If yes, I can post photos of the relevant pages (There are about 9!).
I will, of course, remove sensitive information like name/address/etc.

From page 1, your HbA1c of 12.9% means you are a diabetic. That's a high number. Thought you'd want to know that right a way.

Yeah, I saw that one and was like, *GULP*.
I'm assuming I can't compare this result to the ones I will get with a BG monitor?
Or can I?

fasting 13.4 [home meter number] and A1c of 12.9 is a worry
cholesterol ok, hdl too low, triglyceride too high, ldl ok
do you smoke or been sick? bicarb a bit high
rest is ok

I'd get the bg down, go get some decent drugs from dr, I'd even start thinking about a long acting insulin to get it down
diet very low carb

They put me on metaformin 2 days after that test.
I don't smoke and I haven't been sick. :s
I had drank for three evenings prior to the test ... and was drinking 2 litres of lemonade a day just before it too. Dunno if that makes a difference.

Total cholesterol is good, HDL is a bit low, total/HDL ratio is good, LDL is pretty good.Triglycerides a bit high. Serum bicarbonate level is a bit high - but I don't know what that means. Fasting blood glucose is very high - also diagnostic of diabetes. Everything else seems ok.:nurse:

we all were drinking real soft drink in the week before test
ok, because everything except sugar is ok, the bicarb may be a ringer, ask dr about that

you need to take your diet very seriously, I cat all grain, grain product, potato and sugary stuff and I was only A1c 7.5
see what you can get it down to in a month, more meds wouldn't hurt either, you can always cut back later

Sorry to sound like a n00b but what do you mean by "a ringer"?
Also, I have cut carbs to next to nothing. No bread, rice, pasta or potatoes.
Just meat, greens, cauliflower, tomatoes and eggs.
Is this a good start?

other than your sugar.... ringer, an odd reading that is of no consequence, because everything else is ok.. you could look up bicarb blood test on the net
there is no panic, it's just that it needs sorting
have a read of dietdoctor and watch the video,
Atkins induction diet might be good because there is a lot of recipes and food lists on the net, you can even download his book for free if you look for it

That's a brilliant start. It may sound counterintuitive, but make sure you're getting enough fat. You should get a blood glucose meter and monitor you're blood sugars. However, as was said above, insulin may be called for in your case.:cyclops:

I have a BG monitor arriving tomorrow.
To be honest I'm a little concerned that they only put me on metaformin if I am so high!
I may have to call the doctor tomorrow and ask why.
I'm quite worried now.

there was an indian report, where they give insulin for 3 months and taper it off as the diet and other meds kicked in, metformin will bring it down to A1c around 12, diet will get it ? I'd be looking for at least gliclazide for the time being

no need to be worried, it can take a month to sort out where you are going...and it's just a matter of diet exercise and drugs
lose some weight, keep cutting your carbs, take some drugs if needed..i tend to want to start drugs early and get result and cut them back when the weight and diet kicks in

Did they give you any other advice? Make an appointment to see an endochrinologist? The metformin may have just been a stop-gap until they to more assessment.:***:
