As some of you may know, I've been on an extended business trip to South East Asia, the first in about a year and the very first since my diagnosis in Jan 21.
Here's my observations:
1. On the flight here, albeit very very comfortably, I was surprised to see my BG levels were in range and after 12 hours still the same. Stable. Food was good on the aircraft too.
2. During my enforced quarantine, everything was tickety boo - great food, a terrace on which to relax in prepping for the meetings and BG brilliantly stable. In the 6s FBG and very low 5s thereafter. Managed to exercise on a bike in the bathroom too.
3. After quarantine, with an unstable schedule, stress, uneven mealtimes, my BG peaked at 9.0 one morning and then stabilised into the 6s. I also felt the neuropathy in my left foot quite acutely for the first time in a while as well as red patches of dry skin on my lower calves. These both have stabilised.
4. Eating out and at different times wasn't great either. Despite the prevalence of diabetes being higher than in the UK and an active diabetes society, food choice is just asking for trouble in many instances. I did the best I could.
5. I leave for home shortly with another business trip upcoming to another part of the world in a few weeks. I'll try to use my learning from this trip to try to even out the roller coaster I've experienced here.
This also led me to ponder @KK123 how those with diabetes in shift work - sometimes stressful work too manage to keep a handle on oscillating BG levels as I've had enough trouble over here despite my very best efforts...A question I still ponder!
Hope all's well.
