I keep reading things that real/pure maple is diabetic friendly-er, is this true?

Carbs are sugar, but it's up to you what you do as I cannot advise you.
I believe it’s a false claim.I'm aware that carbs = sugar, I think you've misunderstood what Im asking. Many articles claim real maple syrup does not effect the blood sugar like pure sugars or even fruits, and carbs do. I am asking if anyone here can back that up, or knows if its a false claim.

I cannot have any artificial sweeteners, and while I no longer crave/want sugar, I do occasionally want to make a dessert (birthday, xmas, so on) Is maple syrup safer to use than honey or normal sugar?
Will eating a little once every few months completely throw me off track?
And just for comparison 1 teaspoon of sugar also contains 4g carbs - give or take a grain or two....Hey tk123, if 1 Tbsp = 13.4 gm carb, then 1 tsp = 4.4 ish gm carb.....so if you go for one teaspoon and see how your react,
