You love it or you hate it.....here we are having a sudden plague of mosquitos, and as I am taking blood thinners, the result of bites are pretty unpleasant. Eating or drinking Marmite is something I learned long ago discourages them (even works on most Scottish midges). I take threequarters of a teaspoon a day, as a drink, with a bit of butter or olive oil added. I have discovered quite by chance that this kills hunger pangs as a bonus. I realise it isn't keto-friendly, but I'd appreciate opinions on just how unfriendly it is, as I'm finding it tricky to untangle the ingredients list. I am doing intermittent fasting, and possibly it would help me to reduce overall food intake, as I am almost down to my desired weight, and weight loss has stalled for quite a few weeks now. What are your thoughts, please?

Why wouldn't it be keto friendly?

Yes, it's 30 grams of carbs per 100 but with less than a teaspoon a day it'll be only one gram of carbs or such.

Ingredients

Yeast extract (contains BARLEY, WHEAT, OATS, RYE), salt, vegetable juice concentrate, vitamins (thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B12 and folic acid), natural flavouring (contains CELERY).

Thank you for the ingredients breakdown, Antje - that's much better than I thought, and I wasn't sure if there were hidden sugars, which there seems not to be.

IMO "keto friendly" is simply a (fairly recent I think) piece of jargon. When eating a ketogenic diet we're essentially reducing the number carbs we eat for fuel and replacing them with fats. While any carbs still in our diet should help in ensuring we get enough vitamins and minerals etc, there's actually no "rule" that says "thou shalt not eat ...." as long as we keep our carbs down low enough. So while scoffing a whole jar of Marmite at one go might not be such a good idea, a small spoonful is not likely to cause any issues. Just look at the number of carbs actually consumed as well as the number per 100 grams and let a bit of common sense prevail.
