Maybe There is "Free" Healthcare in the U.S. Thanks Accu-Chek

Of course, the title is facetious. I really appreciate awesome customer experiences and try to share when a company goes above and beyond.

My insurance here in the U.S wouldn't approve (pay for) my Accu-Chek Aviva Plus strips unless I was also on the Accu-Chek Insulin pump (they only cover the OneTouch brand).

However, I got a call from my local Accu-Chek rep who said she was going to try to see what she could do. She also overnight shipped me 150 test strips (about $300 here in the U.S.) free of charge while she worked with my insurance company.

Of course, nothing is ever "free" and I know she wants to win my account, but it's impressive she was willing to go to this length to at least try.


Long story short: had a great customer experience with Accu-Chek and wanted to share.

Depends on where you buy your strips. If you are actually paying $300 for 150 Aviva Plus strips then you are overpaying. I did a quick check on amazon.com and the price for three 50 strip boxes was more in the vicinity of $90.

I think there is a difference between 'insurance' prices and 'retail' prices and even within retail a difference between just walking up in a pharmacy and what you can but for online.

The point I was trying to make was that it was a nice gesture. $300 is roughly what they retail for at my local pharmacy.

In terms of what I actually pay for: 700 OneTouch Verio strips costs me $25usd
