So ive been to the docs and had my pregnancy confirmed
Ive spoke to my dsn and she given me new targets to reach(4.5-6 for breakfast dinner and tea and then 6.5-8 for bed)
Got up this morning to a 6.1 determined to do it right and stay im targets.
I had breakfast and checked 2 hours later and shot to a 17.8
im only on half units of apidra as im senstive to the insulin.
Do you think i should be on full units really dont want these highs i dont want to damage my baby
.
Just feeling really down and hard on myself i should be able to do this!! Any advice please

Do you carb count? In pregnancy it's even more important to calculate your carbs accurately.

What did you have for breakfast? Is your blood sugar normally that high after breakfast when you're not pregnant?

Yes i still carb count.
I had shredded wheat with banana and a glass of pure orange juice.
I used my carbs to cals book to help me so i know i added up to,
So just spoke to dsn told me to do 1-10g of a morning and half units for dinner and tea and if i keep rising to do 1-10g for all meals

Ok Carb counting is the key. If you don't carb count you're 'driving blind' so it's great you're carb counting

I'm glad your DSN was helpful. What I'd do is have exactly the same breakfast tomorrow and use the new ratio she's given you. That way you can compare and see if the new ratio is working or if it needs more adjusting.

Did you use a correction dose when you got the high reading today? If not, that might be something you could speak to your DSN about. You're quite right that it's important to keep tight control during pregnancy, but it's impossible to be perfect the whole time, and one high won't do any harm. We've all had highs. Generally, I'd correct and learn from the high so I could help prevent it happening again.

Also, do keep in mind that sometimes people have highs very early in pregnancy because of hormonal, changes but then that changes to lows, so always have hypo treatments with you and keep testing frequently.

Nice to hear from you again

Yeah i did the correction dose when i say the 17 reading, and yeah shes gave me the new ratios so hopefully rhey will work and fingers crossed the highs and hypos will be kept at minium now

Yes a 17 is bad but don't beat yourself up about it, stressing won't help

Good Luck! xx

Hopefully now doses are adjusting that might help time will tell, but im trying to stick to my figures as best as i can
Xx
