Hi Bob! As a type 2 on diet only, you don't need to worry about regular meals from the perspective of avoiding hypos, as you won't get them any more than any non-diabetic, but you want to avoid having all your food in one big hit with a corresponding big rise in Blood Sugar levels. From that point of view, it's normally better to spread your carb intake over the day. I avoid eating 2 hours prior to bed. As a diet only, eating close to bed time tends to raise your BG before bed and leaves it highish for a lot of the night. I always have higher fasting BGs if I eat before bed.
You also need to bear in mind that different people can tolerate different carb levels at different times of the day. I can eat lots at breakfast, but not much later on, so I have a lot of my days carbs at brekky. Most others seem to be the other way round, and handle carbs better later in the day. You need to experiment and test to see when you can best spread your carb intake. Just don't have all your carbs in one big hit!
