Hi, not sure if you can help. In Spain they measure glucose level and colesterol level differently - mg/dl - for example - level for glucose should be in range from 70-110 mg/dl and colesterol 135-200 mg/dl. Could anyone tell me how this equates with the UK measurements please :?:

Hi Sandi,

To convert from UK mmol/l to Spanish mg/dl just multiply the UK figure by 18 (so 7.5mmol/l = 135 in Spain).

To convert from mg/dl to mmol/l just divide the Spanish figure by 18.

(The US also uses mg/dl)

Hi Dennis,
Thanks for your formula, its very useful. Appreciate very much. It seems that the UK is the odd one out!
Have same problem with cholesterol levels. Here in Sunny Spain they use a completely different system to UK and it is difficult to relate to the different readings. Unfortunately my UK doctor could no understand the Spanish readings!! :? 8)

Hi Sandi,

For cholesterol the multiplication factor is different for some strange reason. To convert cholesterol readings you divide or multiply by 38.
So 5 mmol/l cholesterol = 190 mg/dl.

Hi Sandi
I'm an Aussie living in Germany so also getting used to mg instead of good old mmols. If it helps, you should be able to swap your own glucometer between the two formats if that helps you feel more confident with keeping and eye on things, then change it back to provide info for the doctor.
Also, as has been said, you can devide mg by 18 to find the mmols, or else I sometimes use the following web page if feeling lazy or uncertain:

good luck, I find that dealing with a language barrier in my treatment is a little bit of extra stress so hope you aren't having too complicated a time down in sunny Spain!

Hi rainbow fish,
I have an Aviva Accu-Check - I did wonder if it was possible to change but I don't know how too :? -
Yes it can be a bit difficult dealing with another language, but on the positive side, it is good practice 8)
You know, this is the first time I've used a forum. Not thought much of them before, they always seem full of people making inane complaints but this is brilliant. Thanks to all of you
