Meat and cancer

Is it okay to eat a lot of processed meat and ham?
I know it is okay about diabetes and blood glucose but what about the risk of cancer?
It's the nitrates and nitrates often used to preserve processed meats that have been implicated in causing cancer. So it's best to look for brands without these ingredients (readily available in Canada, and probably also in the UK).
