Hey all

I was just wondering who here (mainly Type 2s but in general) carries either a medical card with them or wears a medical bracelet?
I am in two minds if (as a type 2) they are necessary or just optional.

Hope you are all having a good day/night

:)

I have a bracelet engraved 'type 2 diabetic' better safe than sorry, my DN advised this

I expect it depends on what medication you are on.

I am diet and exercise, and feel i have an OK grasp of my bg and a good hypo awareness (yup, i can get hypos as a non medicated T2 ;) ) but my body takes care of the hypos, even without food, so i dont feel i need a bracelet.

Someone on insulin or one of the other hypo causing drugs would be in a very different position!

I wear a MedicAlert stainless steel bracelet because in addition to T2 I am allergic to penicillin and also wear contact lenses.

I have a medic alert bracelet too (type1 & allergic to anaesetic). Gives me & my family peace of mind. You can just have the bracelet/necklace or for £30 a year can join their emergency contact service which works in over 100 countries. I think it's brilliant and looks likes an ordinary piece of jewellery.

As I'm a Type 1 on insulin, I have a medic alert bracelet engraved with my name , type of diabetes and my son's phone number in case I'm found flat on the floor, hopefully never !! I also carry a card in my purse that states the type of insulin I'm on. All possibilities covered I think.

I am a Type 2 Diabetic on Metformin and when the hospital send the letter to the GP I am being put on an injected non insulin medication for it aswell (cannot remember the name, my brain is a sieve). But I am also on two blood pressure meds and on statins.

I guess from your replies it may be a good idea to get something.

Thank you all for replying :)
