Looking for some advice pls. I’m newly diagnosed t1 (August) and have been contacted to see if I’m interested in doing a trial of Abatacept which may preserve beta cells. Would trial for 6m with regular blood tests.

Looking for some steer on what sort of info I should be asking if I do make initial contact. I’m up for being involved - but, I’m concerned about side effects - having been poorly for some time prior to diagnosis, and only just getting properly back on my feet, I don’t want to ‘regress’ to feeling cr*p again!

Any comments gratefully received :) thanks!

Hi @lou258, whether or not to participate is such a personal decision:). Obviously, the more info you have to help with your decision-making the better! These links may help: the first is to a Lancet journal article on an earlier (2011) Abatacept study: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3462593/pdf/nihms315090.pdf
Table 2 on page 17 lists adverse effects.
Here are additional links from trialnet.org which may be helpful if you don't have them already:

I wish you the best whatever you choose!:)
