I am shocked to the core. I wear a Medicalert bracelet (on my GP's instructions) to advise of three different serious conditions. A few days ago, I was in a medical setting and one of the staff didn't know what it was.

No harm done but has anyone else come across this?

It has been suggested to me, by GP, that I wear one. (Back in the old days, when you used to see them face to face). Also a support group for another condition. The problem, according to a paramedic I know , is that the designs of the bracelets are varied, and made to look like any other jewellery. He told me although paramedics would recognise and look for the Medicalert info, some junior doctors, and inexperienced HCPs are not aware of them. So I didn’t bother getting one.

What was the profession of the HCP you refer to, @Outlier ? Was he / she relatively newvto the profession?

Thanks for reply. She was some variety of nurse, but they don't introduce themselves these days, nor wear a name/rank ID badge. And of course I don't know how long she'd been in the job, but she looked in her late 40s/early 50s.

I didn't say anything except that it was a Medicalert. As both my siblings wear one, I'd always been aware. Perhaps those of us who do wear them need to understand that others don't know about them, but it wasn't what I'd expected.
