Stopped taking Gliclazide about a week ago as I was feeling faint quite often, since stopping this hasn't eased and my levels have been between 3.5 - 4.5 max.

What has happened !

Hi.

The probable reason you are feeling low is because the levels you quote are in hypo territory. Anything below 4 mmol/l is considered to be hypoglycaemia. (low blood sugar)

The symptoms you describe are classic hypo symptoms. Had you eaten recently at all. If so what ?

That's very odd. I would expect stopping Gliclazide to have a negative effect on you BG levels... :?:

Normally it would Patch, however maybe we should find out what food, if any this person consumes. The Glic was stopped a week before.

Nothing out of the ordinary really, Tuna sandwich on brown bread about 4 hours before on the day I nearly passed out driving !

Generally eat a lot of chicken, jacket potatoes & weight watchers meals.

Just feels odd that when I stopped taking the Gliclazide nothing changed and I was stll feeling ropey !

I would have expected my BG to have shot up.

Tested today about 1 hour after lunch, had a small cheese & ham sandwich on brown and some potato & leak soup reading was 7.2.

Tested just now and it is 4.9

No tablets taken today.

Hi.
Thanks for the info. It is possible that you are not eating enough carbs and if you are active then your Bg levels drop significantly. I too would have expected to see your levels rise after stopping the Gliclazide. Have you discussed this strange pattern with your GP/Nurse ?

Are you taking any other meds which might have hypo inducing effects, even non Diabetic related ?

No I haven't discussed with GP/Nurse as yet - they are pretty useless to be honest.

Last time I spoke to the nurse was 6 months ago just after my blood tests came back as good as they have ever been and she came out with the statement I would probably end up on insulin as I am only 34 ! no explanation.

We need more information otherwise it is difficult to offer any real help !

Hi Rochy, are you on any medication at all ? Even over the counter Meds ?

Can you give cugila the names of them because many drugs have hidden side effects which may affect your blood sugar.

You can pm him if you would rather not post on the board.
