Hello, for just over a year I've been taking Metformin (1 in morning then another in evening) and Simvastatin in evening. about 4 months ago my diabetes nurse increased Metformin to 2 in morning. for last 2 months though after I've eaten my stomach churns and i have to head for the loo, doesn't atter what i eat. could this be a result of the increase of meds? any advice before i head to the docs.

I would say highly likely. Metformin meant I lived on the loo for the three weeks I tried it. Neither regular nor slow release were any good for me.

I had to reduce my Metformin for that reason too - probably because my BS results were better.

Have your results changed much?

Almost certainly the Metformin. You can explain to your nurse that it is an unacceptable side effect if it is a problem. You may get the slow release version or a reduced dose.

Roughly one in four people can't tolerate regular Metformin because of gastric effects and half of those can't tolerate the slow release version either. Was there a specific reason given for upping the dose, even though you weren't previously unduly affected by it?

Gastric effects of metformin can be controlled in light cases of discomfort with Omerprazole (I think that's how it's spelt) failing that request a change from your GP
