Hi All

I was diagnosed last July at the grand old age of 34. I did really well to begin with and halved my sugars (they had been reaching 18) anyway I seem to have lost my way a little and I feel that I'm back where I started and don't know what to do. I am struggling with diet - I am trying the cambridge weight plan but quite honestly I'm struggling. I just don't know what to do for the best.

Not sure I'm really after answers, just a virtual hug, to be told everyone goes through it etc etc (failing that a kick up the **** would do!)

Thanks

thanks John. Just had a complete meltdown at home as I feel like a big fat failure! Try talking to my partner but of course he doesn't understand. Thinking about trying the lchf way of eating it I'm easily confused!

Also I'm on 2x metformin a day and 1 x trajenta - I read somewhere that trajenta can make blood sugars rise - argh!!!!!!

@Mustangsalb I was diagnosed at an early age as well, 31 and 36 now. For the past few weeks I have been doing great until this evening when I just completely had enough and felt so frustrated. It is all perfectly normal. You will find your way again. Sending hugs

I've granted you two wishes - I've sent you a hug. You need it. You also asked for a kick up the **** - get ready.
You halved your sugars. I'm a cold turkey person. I've never cut back on anything - I just can't do it - but I can cut something out completely. As for diet - this is what worked for me:
List of foods I can eat and stick to it.
Fat photos inside all the kitchen cupboards
Fear is a fantastic motivator for me. Refresh your memory on diabetes complications.
You are not alone. There are people on this site doing better than you (and better than me) learn from them and follow their example)
And measure and record everything. Give it time to work. If it doesn't work (food, exercise) change it - for the better.
Good luck - and plan to send an update in two weeks time and tell us how things are starting to get better.
T2 Oct 15, diet, metformin and exercise. Level 50 Grand master and feel like I'm 35 again. You can do this.

Thanks all! Just what I needed. I think I'm going to knock this Cambridge weight plan on the head - it's far too restrictive I don't think I can cope. So I think it's lchf for me, see if that makes a difference. Thanks for the reassurance - I started to feel a failure for changing my diet different times but like you've all said - that's ok. It's finding out what works. (I'm just the most impatient person in the world!)

Thank you again I'm feeling better already!

Hello

Rule 1 be kind to yourself, kicking your own **** for the sake of it is not always a good idea.

For me (I say that because everyone is differnt) I use enough carbs to power my body for the activities I am doing that day, I try to eat a boatload of veg and again enough protien to maintain/build my muscles (I am underweight, odd but true). Now for the good bit. I spice/season my food, take the time to make it nice so you enjoy it, it will help with being satisfied.

Is your goal weight loss or maintaining BGs? If it's the latter then you may find the weight drops slowly this time but you willl lay the gound for it staying off.

Let us know how it goes and celebrate the small wins, the big ones will feel epic
