Ive been having more hypos than usually but recently i've been losing my memory a lot more and repeating myself. I was wondering if hypos and memory loss have any relation to each other. i have between 2 and 4 hypos a day and finding it really hard to control. Just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this?

In 2005 I was put on Humulin because supposedly Actrapid was no longer being made. I was told by my diabetic doctor to take the same amount of Humulin units as I had been taking for the Actrapid/Monotard.
The next 2 years were a living nightmare. I would slip into comas during the night with no warning, my husband became very practised at injecting glucagon. I had no hypo awareness at all and would come round all hours of the day not knowing what had happened.

During this time I was losing my memory, couldn't remember simple words in a conversation, couldn't remember what I had done the week before, things that I could vividly/easily remember before the insulin change.

Then I met the DAFNE team who let me know there was no way I should have been on the huge amounts of Humulin insulin that I was taking for the amount that I was eating. The memory loss is caused by lack of sugar getting to the brain, yes the brain needs some form of sugar as well as all your body cells.

You need to see if you can stop the hypos, 2-4 a day is not good for you or your body. You must be taking too much insulin against the carbohyrates that you are eating? I would urge you to contact your diabetic nurse/team/doctor and find out what is happening :)

Gosh thats scary, people dont realise how dangerous it is.Thank you for the advice. ive reduced my insulin quite a lot and things have gotton better. feel a lot better too. :D Does your memory come back once your blood sugar levels out though?

Mine has only improved in some areas, I still have complete blank moments when trying to remember something simple BUT you are alot younger than me and you are getting better control. Remember it is only you that can improve things :)

Good luck with everything.
