Menopause panic!

Messages

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has any insight to how the menopause has effected their diabetes either negative or positive. Being a lady of a certain age I have started to experience night sweats. Initially I put this down to low sugars and did my usual of eating glucose tablets without testing (dumb I know). After a few nights of this happening I decided maybe I should be testing and my readings were coming back between 4 - 10 mmols, not low enough to make me feel that rough! Not sure what to expect.........

I would be interested to here any info or advice on this subject too. I have an early menopause due to having my ovaries removed a couple of years ago and my gp wont let me take HRT anymore because if the increased risk to my blood pressure from diabetes.

All I know is that after I had a hysterectomy and started the menopause I put weight on round my middle, and became diabetic. Bummer

I found it made my sugars rather more erratic / unpredictable - it may be coincidence but the later stages of menopause was when I needed to choose between more medication or a radical reduction in carb intake having managed fine on a traditional diabetic diet until then - I chose to explore low carb and have found keeping carbs under 50-60g works well whereas my sugars go ballistic if I over 100 g

Took HRT without any problem for a number of years through the menopause. I found it necessary as I couldn't tell the difference between a hypo and a flush without testing my blood each time. Luckily my doctor understood this.
