Hello,

What impact does the monthly cycle normally have on your readings?

I have never really paid attention to the patterns in my readings before my period- but with recent constant hypos and now my monthly cycle showing up I am wondering if they are both linked?

CI x

p.s still trying to figure out how to search this forum- so that I am not asking questions which have already been asked!

Hello @CranberryIce You can search for topics in the search bar as long as the title matches relevant topics then a list will appear. It is discussed regularly on the site as many of us suffer from irregular control as hormones do impact on insulin sensitivity, so for me some months I need considerably more insulin the week before and other months it goes by without a blip. The best approach is to keep a diary so you can see results, insulin taken etc and it’s easier then to see patterns this way. You can only really react at the point your control changes in regards to making adjustments but being aware of ‘when’ does take the sting out of the tail.

I need about 5% more basal the week before I’m due, plus a fair bit more bolus as I seem to be quite insulin resistant that week. Keep detailed records, and you’ll spot any patterns!

I think I'm beginning to see a pattern now I've been paying attention to it for the last three months. Looks like I need less insulin the day before my period starts and at least the first day of my period. But with only three months of seeing if there's anything to see, it could of course still be coincidence. I'm hopeful though that in a couple of months having suddenly lower bg's will tell me to put some tampons in my pockets. I'd love not having to ask random strangers if they maybe have a one for me, or trying to save myself with tp (nope, doesn't work, I know, but I'm pretty stubborn). Would be nice if diabetes finally did something useful for me
