Menus. Help. What I need is a menu plan for a week. I once bought a diet book for my wife that was a 3 week eating plan. told you what to eat for breakfast, dinner, lunch , tea etc and there was a list of food itmes in the back of the book that you needed to buy to follow the plan. Is there a diabetic version. I don't want a choice of this and that etc I would like to be told what to eat and when and how to make it. Please help. And if a book like this does not exist would someone write one please. Thanks everyone in advance.

If only what each of us eat could be as detailed as that!

It's up to you to make the choices really. There are thousands and thousands (if not millions) of recipes out there professing to be 'suitable for diabetics' that would be fantsatic for some but useless for others.

You have to decide what level of carbohydrates you want to eat each day and adjust your meals accordingly.

Use the search facility here. Google is also your best friend. If you want practical help, go to YouTube.

Here's an example for you. I eat less than 30g of carbs a day and my dinner recently was a Bratwurst sausage (less than 1g carb) a big helping of green salad, and some chestnut mushrooms done in garlic butter.

Have a look on the recipe section here, there are ideas for everyone.

I didn`t know bratwurst was so low. Another thing to add to my shopping list :)

Irontown. I am much the same as wiflib, less than 30g of carbs, and often much less. Yesterday I had steak and salad with some mushrooms cooked in butter. Delicious.

I went to a diet consultant a couple of years ago. I had a diet plan for a week and stuck to it (almost). I lost 3 stone, BS was controlled and I felt well. However, I fell off the wagon and have had this compulsion to eat anything sweet I can get my hands on. I know I'm on the road to ruin unless I alter my ways. I'm going to do a weekly low carb plan again and loose the 1.5 stones I put on , and the rest! I would advocate taking the time to plan for the week and only buying what you need, (my problem was the Magnums in the freezer).

There are a couple of questions I hope members will help me with, can I drink weak orange squash, can I still have gravy thickener on Sunday, if I only have a small amount and, Can I eat full fat FRUIT yogurts ( hate plain).

Really hope I can stick to it this time, oh and good luck with the planning.

I do a weekly main meal plan in an old notebook and assemble the shopping list from it.
For lunch and breakfast, I just pick something low carb out of the fridge. Usually a bit of cheese or some cold meat. Nowadays, i don't eat much. i geet less hungry that way, which sounds silly, but is true.

PS I do a proper sunday lunch each week.
that's the time i do a dessert. Today's is to be panna cotta.

Check the packaging Lorac. I drink diet squash, I wouldn`t touch the ordinary one. Gravy granules are probably the lowest carb, but again you will need to check what you have. There is a sticky in the low carb forum with recipes to get you started.

Thanks Jeannemum. Think I will have to have gravy with Sunday roast. I'm so weak willed, everyone on the forum seems so upbeat and sensible. Hope I can stick to it this time. I always 'think' a good diet - never so good at implementing it though

I have gravy if we have a roast that needs it, just not as much as I used too. At least having no spuds helps with that  You will get the hang of it quicker than you think. I thought I was weak willed until the thought of having things go wrong took hold. It is amazing how fear can make you stick to something.

that is soooo true

a piece of bread ................... or no eyesight

no brainer for me,

that has what has made this different to the dieting I've done all my adult life.

You will get the hang of it pretty quickly.

This is exactly my way of dealing with cravings. My health with a minimum of complications, and less that 10g of carbs a day becomes easy. I am so afraid of complications, that I just have to have a slight ripple of a craving, look at my feet, or close my eyes as if I were blind and the craving is gone!
