Just wondering how many of you use your meter averages as a guide to your overall control. I use the Accu-Chek Aviva Nano, which gives an average going back 90 days. I find this quite useful to determine my control between my 6 monthly check-up, where I find out my hba1c.

As I am hopeless at recording and writing down results, always start with good intensions though, but never finish what I started. Therefore, hba1c aside, I not only eat to my meter, but take the 7,14,30 and 90 day average as a true reflaction of my overall control.

I know that meter readings are not 100% accurate, but in my mind they have come a long way in reliability, comfort and size.

Regards

Nigel

I use my meter readings to inform what I'm doing too, but since I have to buy m strips myself, I only test once or twice a day, If something unusual happens, or if I'm ill ( Rare) I may get a prescription.

Nigel,

a couple of points, the post meal readings do not account for the spikes one encounters whilst the insulin is kicking in, but I am not qualified to say how these will affect the overall averages.
Secondly, although my reviews have been pushed out to 6 months, I have agreed with my DN, that I can have a 3 monthly blood test for HBA1C. Once I get the form off the doctor to present at the blood clinic, I also tick a few extra boxes  to get my lipid tests, kidney function etc!. I then go along to the surgery three days later and ask for a print out of the results.

Regards Steve.
