I am very mad that different county's use different meters, and you can't get the most up to date ones that may help you .

Try the suppliers direct, they will often give you one for free. Have a look at the meters you are interested in and ask them if they supply it free, some meters though may be restricted to type 1's.
Bayer sent me the contour next usb meter by return of post and its a great meter, as it uses a rechargeable battery you can use the PC to charge it or order a free mains charger. You may need to check with your GP if they will provide the test strips on prescription, As some appear to be issuing one meter to all so that they can get the test strips cheaper.
