I have had Aviva Accuchek blood glucose monitors for several years - each time I ask about replacement batteries, which were not available here, I was given a new one instead. They seemed OK to me, and easy to use. However last week I went to our clinic and was reminded about driving with low levels (my levels have been too high until recently when I decided, against advice, to up my insulin doses until I was in range most of the time). The nurse suggested that I keep one monitor in the car and one at home so that I can do the required checks and gave me two FREESTYLE OPTIUM NEOs. When I said I use the Aviva Accuchek they were a bit sniffy and said I should use these new ones.
So what's wrong with Aviva Accuchek? I have a second one for which I can now get batteries and have sent away for them on the internet. I would just use these new ones, but they are so complicated that I don't understand what I am supposed to do with them - I guess my brain is getting old and less sharp than it once was. Why should it be so complicated? Can anyone suggest a good reason why I should not just give these new ones back to the clinic?
