Hello everyone my Doctor has changed my medication back to Metformin 1500mg daily as i started to have the same problems with pioglitazone i had 6 months ago e.g sleepless nights, joint pains,to mention a few but since starting metformin i cant taste my food will this pass after a while.

Hi Roger,

Are you taking the metformin before, during or after eating?

My doctor recommended that it has less side effects if taken with food, but to ensure that I do enjoy my meal, I take it with the last few mouthfuls and haven't suffered any of the side effects.

Hi Roger,

I did a bit of digging at it seems that loss of tast is a known but quite rare side effect of metformin.

Maybe if you take the tablets with your last mouthfull it might reduce the problem? Worth giving it a try.

Hi,

This is my 1st post.

I was diagnosed back in August'07 but was not put on Metformin until Dec - my xmas present, so to speak. I am only on 500mg once a day and take it with my breakfast, usually half-way thru. Have not noticed anything regarding taste but I do find about 20 mins after finishing my breakfast I start to feel tired and lethargic, this started a few weeks back. Also, I am finding that I get more peckish since taking them.

:)
