Hi folks
i had a call of my diabetic nurse today to tell me she wants to adjust my meds and introduce Metformin on top of my Glicclazide . I have read so many people on this forum have suffered side affects of various extremees on this drug is it worth taking :?: type 2.

My levels are anywere between 16.5 to 7.1 and settling down over 3 wks .I already have a week stomach and wanted some advise of first hand people.
Thanks JF

Yes definitely it is worth trying. If it makes you sick try the slow release version for a few weeks, if it doesn't stop making you sick you can just stop taking it, it won't cause permanent harm.

Most T2s start with Metformin then top up with Glicclazide
Metformin is the most common 1st drug for T2s NHS Google both and see what they do

Basic
Metformin helps with insulin resistance

Glicclazide helps you make more insulin

With Metformin i find it better to take with food (mid meal)
I did feel sick for the first two weeks but that settled down
i have been taking it ever since with no bother
and take 2000mg Met and 160mg Glicclazide

You are likely to have odd problem with the Glicclazide as this can give you the odd hypo
read the label that came with your Glicclazide ,you should test before you drive with this drug

have a good look around this meds section

I have been taking Metformin for nearly two years now. I always take it during a meal. My dose was doubled recently. The only side effect I had was a good one - it helped me to lose weight. When I came off it recently (temporarily) as I thought it was giving me headaches, I put on weight again. The headaches turned out to be nothing to do with Metformin so from my experience (not the same as many others') everything was good. I have been taking the regular Metformin not the SR version.

Hi folks
just a thankyou for sharing your experience with me ,HLW,bowell, and daisy1. :)
