Metformin and clay coloured diarrhea...

Hi there, I am on my second week of meds and today had the worst diarrhea ever...in fact, I had to rush off the side of the road. Anyway,I know this is a side effect but the stool was clay coloured and that kind of freaked me out...it means that my body is not dealing with the food I eat properly doesn't it? ....or is it also a side effect of the drug?

Any thoughts n the matter would be very much appreciated...I am awaiting my doctor to call me back at the momen.t

PS Just to add...Apart from the worry, I feel great and have been losing weight...all in all it's the best I've felt in ages !!

Hi Carole, welcome to the Forum. Fortunately, I didn't get any problems with Metformin apart from 3 weeks of feeling very nauseous, so can't help you on the clay coloured poo. Are you on the SR (slow release) Metformin, if not you could ask your doctor for them.

Hopefully the doctor will be able to put your mind at rest when he calls back. Let us know what he says it is.
