Hi
I struggle with metformin due to the side effects and haven't been taking it as I should. Earlier this year I was prescribed januvia as well and initially showed an improved HBa1C. My latest results were up and we had the metformin discussion yet again. I should point out that I've been in denial a bit lately so the increase is entirely down to me
Metformin gives me nausea, diahorrea and wind! Just lovely!! I also struggle with swallowing pills although am a lot better than I used to be. I have always resisted the slow release form of metformin as I knew the pills were bigger and thought that slow release meant you had to take them whole. I came away from my latest appointment with the slow release form on the basis that I can cut them so I can take them. I've been taking them, just for a few days so far, but am getting the usual side-effects, presumably because I'm cutting them and therefore messing with the slow release?
Does anyone else have to cut slow-release pills and how do you find the side-effects?
My other question is around the two drugs together, metformin and januvia. I suspect what I was told is down to cost reasons as I know januvia is expensive. If I don't get my HBa1C down in 3 months on the metformin/januvia combination I apparently cannot be prescribed januvia any more. Has anyone else had that?
Thanks
Sue
