Well Have just had my first diabetic doctors apt and everything was ok on the whole. HBA1c was 7.7 (which considering 2 months ago I was reading 33 when I was in hospital) I am happy with. All other checks, BP, feet etc ok. BUT... she has decided to reduce my bedtime glargine by 2 units and has given me 500g of metformin. I have only seen metformin metioned with type 2. Appartently it will help my weight go down as well as controlling my sugars.
Given that I have only seen the dietician once so far and had no carb counting course (and my wieght has been the same now for 1.5 months after the inital loss and regain) this seems a bit early - I would have liked to have tried other methods first really. I know I am overweight (have been since I had my son 4 years ago) and that insulin can make it worse but even so.
Also it says do not drink when on Metformin - do any of you drink whilst taking this? I would hate to lose my booze as well as everything else that I have recently had to deal with! I only usually have one or two at the most.
Any advise would be appreciated - I have found this a bit of a shock and haven't stopped crying since I got home (didn't even do this when diagnosed, or when dealing with the injections!) I just can't believe I am going to be on tablets for life as well as my 4 needles a day!
Thanks
