Metformin and upset stomach

I am on Metformin 500mg tablets and trying to eat sensibly, however, every time I eat something after a couple of hours I have an extremely upset stomach!!!! Is this normal???? Have been on the tablets for 6 weeks now!!! Does anyone else have this problem???:(:(:(:(:(

Sometimes they take while to kick in. Are they slow release?
 
Yes, this happens.

When do you take the medication? Important to eat with or after food, rather than before.

Are your pills Slow Release? They are often easier to manage.

Metformin is very useful drug, so I worked really hard to try to readjust after an enforced break.

If you're taking with food and they're SR type, and it's still a problem, go back to doctor if you still have problems as 6 weeks is long time to suffer.

Thanks for replying - They are not Slow release and yes I take them about 10 minutes after eating!!
 
Hi I am on the slow release,these did cause me to have an upset stomach but changed to taking them with my main meal.
I have been on mine now for 3 weeks and it has settled down.
