Can anyone tell me if Metformin makes you loose weight. I ask because my husband was diagnosed T2 about 6 weeks ago. GP put him on Metformin and told him to increase the dose every two weeks until he was on 1000gm twice a day which he now is. His diagnosis BG levels were only just over 7 at two consecutive fasting tests but enough to say he is T2 He takes steriods so GP said probably the reason for developing the T2. Once diagnosed he cut out all sugar stuff rice and pasta but still eats potatoes bread and some cereals but smaller portions than he did He was not really overweight to start with about 11.6 st now he is down to about 101/2 st Wonder if this is just because of what he stopped eating or does the Metformin also make you loose weight

It is probably his new diet. Metformin is known to be an appetite suppressant, so he will possibly be eating much less than he was without feeling too hungry. If he doesn't want to lose any more, he could probably benefit from some extra calories from either fats or protein or both.
