Hello all,
I've been reading the forum for a while and still can't find an answer to the above and would appreciate a little advice (comparatively new to this). My blood sugar wobbles around 5 -9 mmol/l and am still experiencing days when my energy levels are almost non - existent (normally when I have been doing comparatively sedentary work) and have sometimes had to go to bed (at 5/6pm !!) due to how tired /almost 'confused / lack of mental clarity' I start to experience. My blood sugar has usually been about 7mmol/l (ish) during these episodes; so not phnonominaly high. My GP says that this is not high enough to cause these symptoms. Other things I have noticed are:
If I eat some foods high in carbohydrate (pasta etc) then this causes a worsening of this effect (with BG approx 7mmol/l )
If I have had a cold /flu etc seem excessively lethargic and mentally 'unclear' for days after the symptoms from the infection have cleared. This, last time, was so debilitating that I required an additional week off work. It was so profound at times that taking on the phone /holding a conversation was laboured and other competitively simple task were very difficult to complete.
If I have been physically active (gardening (digging), or other physical activity ) I seem better -more energy bot physically exhausted as only seems to happen if hard physical work -so not ideal every day.
If I take my slow release Metformin (tried the 'standard' - did not agree with my digestive system) in the morning / lunchtime with food (two tablets each 500mg) then it seems to help (advice given was in evening with meal) and can sometimes stay up until gone 10 at night !!!!(crikey I'm 44 - daughter is threatening to buy me 'old man' slippers a lifetimes supply of Ovlative and a 'pipe' ).
My long term blood sugar level (HbA1c) is usually about 5 mmol/l -so GP says its well controlled - but I'm still feeling decidedly under the weather a few days of the week.
Any pointers / advice /suggestions gratefully appreciated.
PS
Don't know if relevant but had high BP about two years ago (180 /120 etc -very stressful personal time - divorce - job etc.) so also take Bendroflumethiazide (2.5mg) Simvastatin (20mg) and Perindoprill (4mg) and ventolin and seritide inhalers Blood pressure now great with the medication (125 /60 ) and large changes in life
