Type 2 Metformin doesn't seem to be working for me

I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2021 and put on Metformin and glibenc.
This year(2 years later), my sugar level has risen to 21mol/l and has been admitted in a hospital.
They are injecting me with correction dose of insulin after passing running three litres of saline.

Anytime they give me Metformin at night, my FBS how's high.

Why is Metformin raising my blood sugar please
 
Metformin works by restricting the amount of glucose your liver releases from its stores.
It can not reduce the sugar that's already in your blood mainly from your diet, it just doesn't work like that.
To actually reduce the amount of glucose in your blood requires a much more effective drug or the hormone insulin.
When we digest carbohydrates they are converted to glucose which causes our blood sugar to rise. For people with T2 who produce their own insulin, but have become resistant to it. Limiting the amount of carbohydrates in our diet usually has a far greater impact on our glucose levels than medication.
Hospital food is not known to be very diabetic friendly, so for now you will have to rely on their treatment. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Hi @jackbalo , welcome to the forum.

It is not the metformin that's raising your blood glucose, it's the diabetes.
Metformin does help a little, but it cannot bring down a BG of 21 to healthy levels.

As for why the metformin isn't working well enough for you, it might be that you need more dietary changes than you already made. It might be that you need more medication. Or it might be you're not type 2 but have another type of diabetes.
